Overton wins men’s Player of the Month
Overton’s impressive year continued in June scoring 205 runs at an average of 34.16, alongside taking 12 wickets across formats with a commanding average of 20.66.
The 32-year-old won a Match MVP against Worcestershire in the Blast and 21.33 MVP points for figures 1-22 including a maiden coming from his four overs and an innings of 26 off 18 balls.
Another Match MVP came in the longer format against Warwickshire as Overton earnt 41.75 MVP points for figures of 2-44, five catches and an innings of 111 off 232 balls in a partnership of 233 with Thomas Rew. Overton also took figures of 5-29 against Nottinghamshire in the County Championship.
On winning June’s award, Overton said: “It’s a great feeling. I feel like my form has carried on and it’s nice to contribute to the team. We had two positive results in the Championship and even though the Blast has not quite gone to plan, I still feel like I’m contributing to the team.
“To be top of the MVP is a great sign. It’s showing that I’m performing for my team and that’s all I want to do. I want to make sure that I’m trying to win games for Somerset and that means taking wickets and scoring runs.
“Hopefully we’re starting to get a few more players back from injury as get into the crunch part of the T20 now and then we have a little break with The Hundred. It’s then about making sure that we’re all ready for the back end of the summer to push for those final six games and having a right good crack at winning the Championship for the first time.
“I still want to play for England but for me it’s about concentrating on Somerset and then if the call up happens, the call up happens. I’m not thinking too much about it at the minute. I’ve been out the side for three or four years now, so I just want to make sure that I’m performing for Somerset, and if I don’t get the call, then I know I’ve done everything I can to be picked, and sometimes that’s life, it doesn’t happen.”
Bouchier’s batting brilliance earns June award
Bouchier enjoyed a fantastic run-scoring month amassing 467 runs at an average of 93.4 as Hampshire won all seven games in June.
The 27-year-old won an incredible four Match MVP awards, against Essex she earnt 28.26 points for an unbeaten innings of 136 off 114 balls including 18 fours and two sixes in a 246-run partnership with Ella McCaughan in the One Day Cup.
Against the same opposition she smashed 87 off 55 balls in the Blast in a 55-run victory, securing a further 39.3 MVP points. Her other two Match MVPs also came in the Blast against Durham and Lancashire scoring 63 and 74 not out respectively.
Having won June’s award, Bouchier said: “When you look at my stats for the month they’re a bit crazy, I’ve just been thinking about the team and contributing when I can and having those opportunities to just be able to play for a long period of time and those 50-over games I’ve been working hard at that format, so to see the runs coming out in some way, shape, or form is great.
“It’s been a mindset change for me. I’ve really worked hard on being consistent in my process and trying to stay calm as much as possible. I guess staying composed at the crease is down to that process and the mindset. Thinking about what I’m doing in every ball and trying to be as reactive as possible. Just being consistent throughout that process has been really key for me. I’m trying to enjoy my cricket a little bit more as well.
“It’s amazing to hear how much of the public vote I got, I’m so chuffed, I’ve probably had most of my friends and family voting and telling their friends. The family group chat was certainly going off. I’ve got such an amazing support network and the fans are just amazing. They come watch us every game, come and support us and that’s all we really asking for is making sure that they’re supporting us and that’s all we want.”
