CRICKETER TURNED ACTOR WINS FILM AWARD A film starring former Derbyshire batsman Hamza Siddique and part-funded by the Professional Cricketers’ Association won the Best Film Award at the recent Triforce Film Festival held at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. The film, GLOW, was part of Siddique’s final assignment in his Masters degree in acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama. The PCA supported Siddique’s course and the film through educational funding. Siddique, who had two seasons on Derbyshire’s staff and played first-class cricket for Cardiff MCCU, graduated last year and is now working as a professional actor and has already appeared in a number of episodes of the BBC drama series Doctors. In GLOW, Siddique starred as Elijah who was taken to see the Northern Lights by his friends after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. The film, which was written and produced by Siddique and fellow students Liam Darby, Haley Bishop, Josias Bertrand and directed by Alasdair Mackay, was recognised at the Triforce Festival which showcases contemporary film-making. ” The festival also helps emerging film-makers to develop skills and access opportunities to further their careers,” Siddique said. ” With a focus on recognising and supporting diverse talent, the festival brings together film-makers with the movers and shakers in the industry, enabling emerging artists to break into the mainstream. ” As part of the prize for winning the Festival, Team GLOW will be meeting with financiers and are in talks with creating GLOW into a feature or mini-series in the future. ” The PCA played a huge part in making this possible and I would again like to thank them, on behalf of the team, for their support.” {{ak_sharing}}
