August Teams of the Month revealed

The August Teams of the Month are here, with both sides chosen using the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX.

An all-format month has seen The Hundred finals, both Metro Bank One Day Cup competitions reaching the business end and the return of the Rothesay County Championship for its final block of games.

Six Hundred finalists feature in the women’s XI, including Georgia Adams and Sophia Dunkley, who triumphed with Trent Rockets. Dunkley notched scores of 65, 57 and a crucial 41 in the final, while Adams took ten wickets in August at an average of just 13.40.

From runners-up SunRisers Leeds, Australian internationals Phoebe Litchfield and Annabel Sutherland are joined by Lauren Winfield-Hill and seam bowler Kate Cross, who recently announced her retirement from the professional game.

Captain Sutherland scored 228 runs at an average of exactly 76, while Litchfield’s top-order prowess saw her top the batting rankings with 87.10 points.

Winfield-Hill was the pick of the wicketkeepers, with five stumpings and two catches to her name. Cross’s best performance came in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, as she took 4-33 against Hampshire, setting up a Lancashire win in Southampton.

Also opening the bowling for Lancashire that day was Grace Potts, who also makes the side after taking nine wickets at 15.44. Further bolstering the bowling attack are England spinners Charlie Dean and Tilly Corteen-Coleman, who claimed first and second in the bowling rankings respectively with ten wickets each.

Tying up the middle order are all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Kathryn Bryce, the latter scoring a dominant 136 in The Blaze’s win over Durham. Kapp features despite playing just four games for London Spirit in August, after her strong form with both bat and ball.

The men are captained by The Hundred winner and Player of the Competition, Tim Seifert, after his explosive form with the bat.

He and his Manchester Super Giants opening partner Paul Walter take the top two spots, with 147.61 and 136.52 points respectively.

Worcestershire List A captain Jake Libby has had a remarkable month, starting with three consecutive centuries (not including one on the final day of July), followed by another ton and two scores over 45 in the County Championship.

Nottinghamshire’s Joe Clarke and Kyle Verreynne bat at five and six. Clarke’s highlight was a masterful innings of 150 against Warwickshire in difficult conditions, while his South African teammate takes the gloves after 12 catches and two stumpings.

A stunning return to red-ball cricket saw Leicestershire captain Ian Holland take match figures of 9-49, leading his team to victory against Glamorgan and taking his August wicket tally to 17 for the month.

Yorkshire’s George Hill and Dom Bess have 335 runs and 23 wickets between them in August. On their return to red-ball cricket, Hill took five wickets in Hampshire’s first innings, only for Bess to match the feat in the second innings, giving Yorkshire a 39-run victory.

Brydon Carse, Olly Stone and Kyle Abbott then complete the team as the top three in the bowling rankings. Stone backed up match figures of 10/94 at the Kia Oval with 5/49 at Edgbaston, giving him 21 wickets in just five games this month.

Carse leads the attack with 92.02 points after superb performances for SunRisers Leeds and Durham, while Abbot’s 14 wickets 17.29 earn him the final spot.

The PCA’s MVP system compares player performances against expected outputs for each match, adjusting for venue conditions using CricViz data. The result is a ball-by-ball ranking designed to reflect true performance.

The teams have been selected to form realistic and balanced sides meaning Melie Kerr is omitted despite finishing eighth overall. The form of her fellow all-rounders Kapp, Adams and Dean mean the New Zealand captain cannot find a spot in the XI. Equally, SunRisers Leeds’ Ryan Rickelton finished fifth in the batting standings but misses out on a spot to the four top-order batters ranked above him.
