Professional Cricketers’ Association Announces Annual Awards – The Game’s Biggest Party – 12/08/2004 The Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) in association with NatWest and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has today confirmed the details for its prestigious awards evening. The annual black-tie awards ceremony – which returns this year to London’s Royal Albert Hall – celebrates excellence both on and off the field and has very quickly become the game’s biggest annual party. The awards take place from 6.30pm on 21st September 2004, with exclusive highlights of the presentations being shown on Sky Sports. Dinner will be followed by a round up of the season and the presentation of awards to players and those associated with the game. It will then be time to relax and celebrate a truly memorable season with musical entertainment from England international player Mark Butcher and his band. The Awards Awards to be presented include… NatWest Reg Hayter Cup for PCA Player of the Year Costcutter John Arlott Cup for PCA Young Player of the Year ECB Special Award MCC Spirit of Cricket Previous winners of the NatWest Reg Hayter Cup for PCA Player of the Year include Mushtaq Ahmed (2003), Michael Vaughan (2002) and Kent’s Dave Fulton (2001). Winners of the John Arlott Cup for PCA Young Player have included Worcestershire’s Kabir Ali (2003 & 2002) and Matthew Hoggard (2001). Terrific Season Richard Bevan, group chief executive of the PCA, said: ” It’s been a terrific season and we’ve all been thrilled to see such great cricket played across the board, from the England team to the success of the Twenty20. ” The awards evening is all about celebrating achievement and this year we have been lucky enough to see some truly great cricket as well as a lot of hard work behind the scenes. ” The awards are keenly contested, with winners being voted on by players themselves. With previous awards going to the likes of Michael Vaughan and Matthew Hoggard, they can be an indication of great things to come. ” We’re delighted to be back at the Royal Albert Hall this year, after a gap of three years.” NatWest Proud Steve Day, head of brand strategy, NatWest, commented: ” These awards mark the end of another memorable cricket season and NatWest is proud to be part of the celebrations and the achievements of the players in such a prestigious venue.” A limited number of VIP hospitality tickets for the event are still available from the PCA on 020 7544 8670.
