Plunkett took five for 52 in Sunday’s win in the third match of the Royal London One Day Series against West Indies at Bristol.

That performance gave the Yorkshire paceman 38 points towards a match haul of 40 PCA MVP points, a total that has been bettered by only five other England players.

Chris Woakes occupies first and second place in the all-time ODI performance table for his 43 points against India at Cuttack in January this year and 42 points against Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge in June 2016.

Moeen Ali is third in the list with 41.55 points against Scotland in 2015, followed by Jason Roy’s 41.02 points haul against Sri Lanka last year and Alex Hales with 41.02 points against Pakistan, also last year.

Plunkett’s points haul at Bristol also took him past 100 PCA MVP points in ODIs this summer, the fourth player to reach the milestone after Joe Root, who leads the rankings with 163 points, Adil Rashid (127) and Ben Stokes (126).

Plunkett left Bristol with more PCA MVP points than Moeen Ali who plundered 102 from just 57 balls. Ali needed only 53 balls to reach three figures, the second-fastest ODI century by an England batsman, including 61 runs from just 14 balls.

Although Ali earned 27 batting points he lost nine points for bowling 10 wicketless over for 65 runs and left Bristol with 21 PCA MVP points.

The PCA MVP Rankings system identifies the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season.

The formula takes into account conditions, quality of opposition, captaincy and strike-rates as well as runs scored and wickets taken.

Ali has now climbed to third in England’s overall PCA MVP Rankings with 258 points in all formats. With two ODIs left of the international season – at the Kia Oval tomorrow and the Ageas Bowl on Friday, Ali and Root, who is second with 316 points, have the chance to be crowned the overall England MVP for the summer.

Eoin Morgan, England’s white ball captain, needs just one more point from those two matches to reach three figures for the season.

Morgan still heads England’s all-time ODI points table with 1,125 with Root the second highest-placed of the current squad on 865 points. Root needs 42 points to become only the sixth England player to earn 2,000 career points in all international cricket.
