PCA Everest Trek Raises £ 35,000 For Professional Cricketers’ Trust – 20/11/2007 A team from the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) has returned from a successful trek to Everest Base Camp, raising over £ 35,000 for the PCA Professional Cricketers’ Trust along the way. The PCA, the representative body for past, present and future first class cricketers, took a team of seventeen trekkers including five current players – Mark Wagh (Notts), Graham Napier (Essex), Ryan Cummins (Leicestershire), Nick Compton (Middlesex) and Steve Patterson (Yorkshire). During the trek, the team staged what is believed to be one of the world’s highest ever cricket match at Gorak Shep Glacier, which is 5,288 meters above sea level. The 17 ‘tourists’ were joined in the match by Sherpa guides. The highest altitude reached by the team was at Kala Pattar (5545m), which lies above Base Camp, offering superb views along the mountain to the peak of Mount Everest. PCA Group Chief Executive Richard Bevan, who completed the trek said. ‘It was an exceptional achievement to reach Everest Base Camp, let alone to play a cricket match at such high altitude.
