PCA England Masters Bring Penrith Community Together The PCA England Masters, fresh from victories against Brentwood CC, Bramhall CC and Woodhall Spa CC in recent weeks, travelled north at the end of July to help Penrith Cricket Club mark their 150th Anniversary with a special celebratory event. The star-studded line-up, captained by Neil Fairbrother and including Ryan Sidebottom, Stephen Harmison and Alex Tudor, visited the Cumbrian club’s Tynefield Park ground for some junior coaching, corporate lunch and t20 game against the club’s 1st XI. On the pitch, former England pace bowler Andy Caddick made 71 to help the PCA to 187-3, before Durham’s Graham Onions took 3-14 to restrict Penrith to 147-6. Despite the 40-run defeat, the day was a huge hit both on and off the field. ” It was a fantastic occasion – the weather, the food, the game, the players, the speakers – everything went so well and the whole day was a great success,” said Penrith chairman Andrew Hall. The event was the largest of its kind ever held in the local area, and received extensive coverage on BBC Radio Cumbria with the station’s sports presenter, James Clarke, on hand to interview the players throughout the day. With tickets priced at just £ 10 and children able to attend for free, the event brought together not only the club’s regular members and supporters, but also local individuals and businesseswho had not been involved before. The club aims to maintain these new relationships and continue to build the club as a real focal point within the community. ” The feedback has been wonderful and there is now so much goodwill towards the club,” Andy Hall said. ” As a means of showcasing the club and raising funds, the day was an unqualified success and the PCA England Masters really are a credit to the game.” If your club is interested in hosting a PCA England Masters match click here for more information or email pcamasters@thepca.co.uk. {{ak_sharing}}
