Nominees Announced for NatWest PCA Awards – 01/10/13 This year’s nominees have been revealed for the NatWest PCA Awards, which will take place at the Roundhouse this Thursday (3rd October). The not-for-profit event, run by the PCA in association with NatWest and the ECB, sees English cricket players both past and present, sponsors and stakeholders gather to reflect on the domestic season, with all monies raised on the night going to the PCA Professional Cricketers’ Trust. Nominees for NatWest PCA Player of the Year: Moeen Ali (Worcestershire): Scored more than 2,000 runs in all cricket, taking 55 wickets. The leading scorer in the LV=County Championship, plundering 1,375 runs with four hundreds, including a career-best 250 against Glamorgan. Picked in England’s Performance Squad to tour Australia this Winter. Michael Hogan (Glamorgan): Enjoyed a tremendous debut season in county cricket after moving from his native Western Australia. He took 103 wickets in all cricket, including 67 wickets in the LV=County Championship and 28 in the Yorkshire Bank 40, helping Glamorgan to the final. Samit Patel (Nottinghamshire): Scored more than 1,800 runs in all cricket and took 57 wickets. The allrounder struck an unbeaten 129 in the group stages of the Yorkshire Bank 40 and was Man of the Match in the final, with 3-21 from his left-arm spin. He also helped Notts to the Friends Life t20 quarter-finals and compiled three hundreds in the LV=County Championship. Graham Onions (Durham): Finished with 87 wickets in all cricket, where he was the leading wicket-taker in the LV=County Championship, taking 70 wickets in just 12 matches as Durham marched to their third title in six years. The 31-year-old took five wickets in an innings on five occasions. Nominees for NatWest PCA Young Player of the Year: Joe Root (Yorkshire): The 2012 NatWest PCA Young Player of the Year has established himself as a regular in all formats for England, scoring his maiden Test hundred against New Zealand at his home ground of Headingley as well as posting 180 at Lord’s against Australia. He finished the season with more than 1,400 runs in all cricket. Ben Stokes (Durham): A powerful left-handed batsman and fast bowler, Stokes scored more than 1,400 runs in all cricket and took 72 wickets during the summer, including 42 in the LV=County Championship. He took his maiden five-wicket haul for England’s One-Day Team at the end of the season. Reece Topley (Essex): A giant left-arm seamer who took 86 wickets in all cricket this Summer. That total included 48 wickets in his first full season in the LV=County Championship, and a further 21 in the Friends Life t20 to help Essex to Finals Day. Touring Australia this Winter as part of England’s Performance Squad. James Vince (Hampshire): Scored almost 2,000 runs in all cricket, including four hundreds in the LV=County Championship on the way to his first 1,000-run Summer. The right-hander helped the Royals to the semi-finals of both the Yorkshire Bank 40 and Friends Life t20, scoring 129 not out against Essex in the YB40. The NatWest PCA Awards, universally supported by the players, are entirely not-for-profit.
