Mike Gatting Bowled Over By Community PC Recycling Scheme – 16/12/03 England cricketing legend Mike Gatting has been so bowled over by the success of Camden’s Community PC Recycling Scheme that he attended the donation of a PC to the Highgate Newtown Community Partnership Centre. 100 Not Out! Camden’s Community PC Recycling Scheme, which is carried out by the council in partnership with PC Disposals Ltd, has passed the 100 tonne barrier in its first year. It has saved 100 tonnes of IT waste from clogging up landfill sites, while providing residents and voluntary groups with affordable PC’s. Five-fer To celebrate reaching this important landmark PC Disposals donated five complete PC’s, saved from landfill by the scheme, to voluntary and community groups in Camden. The Beneficiaries Mike Gatting attended the donation as a representative of The Professional Cricketers’ Association which is among the businesses taking part in the scheme. Also there were representatives of community groups who have benefited from the scheme, as well as Cllr John Thane, Camden’s Executive Member for the Environment. Community Winner Cllr Thane said: "I am delighted with the success of this scheme. It not only helps the environment by preventing more waste from clogging up landfill sites, it also enables community groups to access PC’s they would not otherwise have been able to afford." Camden Community PC Camden’s Community PC Recycling Scheme enables residents and businesses to dispose of their PC’s in an environmentally friendly fashion. It involves refurbishing outmoded computers and selling them at low prices to residents, charities and community groups in Camden.
