LANCASHIRE SWAP CRICKET FOR DIY Lancashire players swapped bats and balls for saws and trowels when they took part in a training day to improve their DIY skills. The session at the DIY School in Stockport was organised by Matthew Wood, the former Yorkshire and Glamorgan batsman who now works as one of the PCA’s six-strong team of Personal Development Managers and Welfare Managers as part of the players’ ongoing Personal Development Programme. Simon Kerrigan, Toby Lester, Jordan Clark, Luke Procter, Arron Lilley, Tom Bailey, Karl Brown and Robert Jones donned their overalls and joined Wood for a busy day of plastering, wallpaper hanging, wall lining, skirting board fitting and door hanging under the expert supervision of the professional staff at the school. There was a competitive element to the day with Clark taking the prize for the best finish after the plastering session. ” The lads enjoyed a challenge and found that it was all more difficult than the tutor made it look,” Wood said. ” Obviously competitive instincts kicked in which added to an enjoyable day. ” Personal development is important in all work sectors, Cricketers and sportspeople spend thousands of hours honing skills to improve their performance, this is a similar investment of time that will help create a safe exit from professional sport. ‎ ” It changes up the winter programme and is encouraged by the coaching staff at Lancashire who appreciate activities that help their players develop personally. Saying that I think the lads were looking forward to returning to the nets the following day.” {{ak_sharing}}
