Johnson Wins Frizzell Award For August – 02/09/2004 Somerset pace man Richard Johnson has been named as the winner of the Frizzell PCA Performance of the Month award for August after his astonishing 101 not out against Durham at Riverside. More Than A Nightwatchman! Johnson was the last man to the wicket in his side’s first innings score of 400 declared, and he smashed his 101 from just 63 balls, hitting nine fours and six sixes along the way – recording the fastest century of the season so far. Johnson The All-Rounder? The former England Test player also took three wickets in the game and will receive a cheque for £ 750 from Frizzell after his performance was chosen as the outstanding one in August by the Professional Cricketers’ Association’s (PCA) county representatives. Each month, a number of performances are nominated by a panel including those representatives, England Chairman of Selectors David Graveney, and the PCA Executive. Divsion One Route Somerset currently stand in seventh place in Frizzell County Championship Division Two with a slim chance of promotion remaining if results go their way in the remaining two matches of the season.
