Fans Prepare to Face their Heroes – 16/07/10

Fans prepare to meet their heroes – 16/07/10 A group of England cricket fans have won a fantastic once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play alongside former international stars like Mike Atherton, Graeme Hick and Richie Richardson in a special ‘TwelfthMan Fans’ and Legends’ T20′ match at Wormsley next week. The game sees 14 amateur cricketers take their place alongside eight ex-England and Pakistan players, including Mushtaq Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq and Paul Nixon, for the exciting fixture at the Stokenchurch venue in Buckinghamshire on Tuesday 20 July. The match is being run by TwelfthMan, the official fan community of England cricket, and will be followed by a PCA Twenty20 match between England Masters and the Rest of the World Masters. Players were picked through an ECB prize draw for all supporters who bought tickets for one of England’s 2010 internationals before Christmas Day, as well as competitions on Facebook and TalkSport to name the two teams. One of the lucky winners was 31-year-old Shaun Roy from London, who said: "I’m a massive cricket fan and my all-time sporting hero is Graeme Hick, so I can’t wait to meet him. "I play a lot of club cricket and my wife is definitely a cricket widow, but she will be coming to Wormsley to watch me play for the first time and I’m sure the occasion will be memorable for both of us." Another winner, 20-year-old Scott Davis from Birmingham, only started playing club cricket last year, but is hoping his experience watching some of his heroes in action during the Edgbaston npower Ashes Test last year stands him in good stead. He said: "I’ve always loved watching cricket since my Dad got me into the sport as a youngster, but only recently took up playing when a friend asked if I fancied a game. "I saw two days of the Ashes Test at Edgbaston, which was amazing and hopefully I learned a bit from watching England battling with Australia." A big crowd is expected on the day for the match and will set the scene for the PCA Twenty20 clash between former England and international legends, at a ground often described as the most beautiful in England. Created by Sir John Paul Getty on the family’s estate close to High Wycombe, Wormsley is just a minute from Junction 5 of the M40. The TwelfthMan Fans’ and Legends’ T20 match gets underway at 10am, with the PCA England Masters taking on the International Masters at 3.30pm. Advance tickets cost £ 15 for adults and £ 5 for concessions, available from http://www.wormsleycricket.co.uk/, while admission on the day is £ 20 for adults and £ 5 for concessions. A Champagne Hamper can be booked for £ 100 and full hospitality can be enjoyed for £ 250.
