Position Title: Assistant Coach – Otago Volts Cricket Team
Reports To: Head Coach and GM Performance
Location: Dunedin
Contract Type: Full-time (as applicable)
Role Summary:
The Assistant Coach will play a pivotal role in supporting the Head Coach in delivering high-performance outcomes for a professional domestic cricket team. This position requires a strong understanding of the modern game, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work closely with players and support staff to develop individual and team performance in line with strategic goals.
There shall be consideration for flexibility regarding the employment conditions and annual workload. OCA will discuss with the successful applicant, a tailored approach to meeting the needs of both candidate and OCA.
Key Responsibilities:
Player Development:
- Assist in planning and delivering training sessions.
- Provide specialized coaching in a designated area (e.g., batting, bowling, fielding).
- Monitor individual player progress, conduct performance reviews, and contribute to individualized development plans.
- Take responsibility for the development and management of the Wider Training Group and non-playing squad members, ensuring they remain engaged, prepared, and aligned with the team’s overall objectives.
Match Preparation & Strategy:
- Support the Head Coach in match strategy formulation, opposition analysis, and game-day planning.
Performance Analysis:
- Collaborate with performance analysts to interpret data and video footage to inform coaching decisions.
Team Culture & Leadership:
- Help build a positive, professional, and competitive team environment.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Maintain open communication with players, support staff and selectors.
- Liaise with cricket operations personnel to ensure all operational and logistical matters relating to the team are in place – travel, accommodation, transport, allowances, outfitting and media and sponsorship requirements.
Key Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience:
- Level 3 (or equivalent) Cricket Coaching Accreditation (minimum); Level 4 preferred.
- Significant experience coaching at elite domestic or international level (player or coach).
- Demonstrated success in player development and high-performance environments.
Skills & Attributes:
- Deep technical and tactical knowledge of the modern game.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire players.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and a growth-oriented attitude.
Desirable:
- Prior coaching experience at first-class or domestic level.
- Familiarity with sports science, strength and conditioning, and modern performance technologies.
- Experience working with diverse teams and developing youth or emerging talent pathways.
