Jos Buttler has been named the Vitality IT20 Men’s Player of the Summer for a second year in a row after topping the PCA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Rankings, powered by OFX, with 136.90 points.

England’s all-time leading IT20 run-scorer added 301 runs to his total this summer at an average of 43. Also striking at above 190, Buttler secured 113.90 batting points to go along with 15 fielding points courtesy of five catches and two stumpings.

The former England white-ball captain earned two Match MVPs in his seven IT20 appearances. He started as he meant to go on in the first match against the West Indies in June, smashing a blistering 96 off 59 balls. That innings, featuring six fours and four sixes, saw him record 42.61 MVP points and led England, alongside a four-wicket haul by Liam Dawson, to a 21-run victory.

England won that series 3-0 and Buttler ended it as the leading run-scorer, accumulating 165 runs at an average of 55.

Buttler, who led England to T20 World Cup success in 2022, picked up his second Match MVP in a rain affected game against South Africa in Cardiff. Opening the batting with Lancashire teammate Phil Salt in a five-over affair, he scored an 11-ball 25 with three sixes but England ultimately fell short of their target.

The pair had a game to remember in the very next outing in Manchester, producing a stunning 126-run opening partnership to fire England to their highest ever IT20 total of 304-2. Buttler scored 83 off just 30 balls while Salt recorded England’s fastest ever IT20 century, finishing on 141 not out from 60 balls, as England thrashed South Africa by 146 runs.

Despite featuring in just four games this summer, Salt finished second in the MVP Rankings on 114.66 points thanks to that stunning century and an equally thrilling 89 off 46 balls in the opening game against Ireland. Another opening batter, Ben Duckett, ended the summer in third position with 53.81 points from his three appearances, the highlight of which saw him score 84 off 46 balls and take two catches in the final game against the West Indies.

Buttler joins Harry Brook and Joe Root in claiming an England Men’s MVP Award this summer. Brook was named the Rothesay Men’s Test Player of the Summer while his fellow Yorkshireman took home the Metro Bank Men’s ODI Player of the Summer accolade.

The Vitality IT20 Men’s Player of the Summer was selected by the PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX, the PCA’s Official FX Partner. The formula takes into account expected performance on every ball according to CricViz’s extensive database. The algorithm also considers the historic performances of the venue each fixture is being played at, therefore giving a more accurate reflection of the top performers in the game than traditional batting and bowling averages do.

England’s next white-ball challenge sees them travel to New Zealand for three-match IT20 and ODI series starting at the back end of October. They will then travel to Sri Lanka in early 2026 before seeking to secure a third T20 World Cup title in India and Sri Lanka, with that tournament starting on 7 February.
