The men’s and women’s MVP Teams of the Month for August have been selected based on the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX.

Using the MVP’s unique algorithms, players have been selected based on their excellent contributions with the bat, ball and in the field across the month of August in The Hundred and the Men’s Metro Bank One Day Cup. These teams are the penultimate iteration of PCA’s Team of the Month for the current domestic season.

Following Oval Invincibles hat-trick of titles, the side see four players represented in the men’s Team of the Month for August with returning batter Jordan Cox as captain. The 24-year-old, who was named as The Hundred Men’s Player of the Year secured the most MVP points with 159.89. He is joined by teammates Sam Curran, Rashid Khan and Jason Behrendorff.

The side’s batting is strengthened by some excellent performances in the One Day Cup with both Hampshire and Essex captains Nick Gubbins and Tom Westley finding a place along with Yorkshire opener Imam-ul-Haq. The latter ended the month as the leading run-scorer in the competition having scored 688.

Gubbins, meanwhile, was the second-highest run-scorer with 669 at an average of 95.57 while Westley put 561 runs on the board over the course of the 50-over competition.

The team has players who won games with the bat across the month all the way down to number eight. Rehan Ahmed, who keeps his place from July’s Team of the Month, leads the plethora of all-rounders in the side having accumulated 52.75 batting points and 74.99 bowling points after scoring 189 runs and taking 12 wickets last month.

In the women’s game, Northern Superchargers’ title-winning side are represented by captain and The Hundred Women’s Player of the Year Phoebe Litchfield along with her Australian teammate Annabel Sutherland and England Women’s PCA Representative Kate Cross.

Litchfield earned 124.23 MVP points after scoring 292 runs at an average of 41.71. Cross, on the other hand, took 15 wickets in the 100-ball format, including picking up two wickets in the final at Lord’s.

The batting is strengthened by the presence of England batter Sophia Dunkley and her international captain Nat Sciver-Brunt. The pair picked up the second and third most batting points in August with 113.50 and 111.19 respectively.

Cross is joined by fellow England teammates Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone in this strong MVP side. Bell ended the competition as the leading wicket-taker of the competition. The 24-year-old took 19 wickets at an excellent economy of just 5.39 which saw her get 87.49 bowling points, the most in August.

The PCA’s MVP system works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. This enables players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings are a true reflection of performance.

The teams have been selected using a traditional, balanced side. This meant that Somerset all-rounder Tom Lammonby missed out due to other all-rounders like Curran, Ahmed and Liam Livingstone securing more MVP points than the 25-year-old in August.

Similarly in the women’s team, Northern Superchargers batter Davina Perrin unfortunately misses out to Beth Mooney with the Australian batter having more batting and overall points than the Warwickshire youngster.
