Matthew Wheeler succeeds Anthony Wreford as Chairman of the Board of the PCA

Matthew Wheeler succeeds Anthony Wreford as Chairman of the Board of the PCA – 17/07/14 After more than five very successful years, Anthony Wreford will be stepping down as Chairman of the Board of the PCA at the end of September. He will be succeeded in that role by Matthew Wheeler, already an Independent PCA Board Director. Wheeler is a PCA member, having played cricket professionally for Northamptonshire, and has since forged a highly successful business career in the sports, entertainment and leisure sectors. He is Managing Partner of Sports Investment Partners LLP. Mark Wallace, PCA Chairman, paid tribute: ” On behalf of the Players, I would like to thank Anthony for all the work he has done on our behalf. Matthew is a perfect successor, and I am confident he will prove an equally capable partner”. Angus Porter, PCA Chief Executive, recognised Wreford’s contribution to the work of the Association: “We have made great strides under Anthony’s Chairmanship in strengthening the Finances of the PCA, whilst at the same time adopting exemplary standards of governance, and extending the range of support and services we offer to our members. Anthony’s leadership and wisdom has been invaluable, and we are both grateful to him for all he has done, and sorry to see him go.” Anthony Wreford responded: ” I am sorry to be completing a very enjoyable 5-year term as non-exec Chairman of the PCA but boards have to keep fresh, particularly given the ever-changing challenges in cricket and the commercial world. I wish Matthew Wheeler, Mark Wallace, Angus Porter and the team every success in the future, both in continuing to serve the PCA members, and being an important influence in cricket.” Incoming Chairman, Matthew Wheeler, added: “Anthony has done an excellent job for the PCA and working with him has been an absolute privilege. I hope to continue in the same vein working with Mark, Angus, and the management team to extend the services and support we can offer current and past players and to give a voice to the concerns and needs of all our members.” A search for a further Independent non-Executive Director to join the PCA Board is well advanced, and an appointment will be made shortly. -Ends- Contacts: Angus Porter 07584 262083: Anthony Wreford: 07836 355096: Matthew Wheeler: 07771 940228 {{ak_sharing}}
