Marcus Trescothick wins back to back monthly FTI MVP awards – 08/07/11 Somerset captain Marcus Trescothick has become the first player ever to win back to back monthly FTI MVP awards, underling his dominance in the domestic game this season. Trescothick won the award for June after a number of blistering performances in the Friends Life t20 that have helped Somerset to second in the south group. Throughout June Trescothick has starred with the bat earning a total of 141.06 points over the course of the month. The 35 year old’s top score of the month was against Essex, blasting 108 runs from 61 balls to help his side to victory. Other impressive scores include 87 from 39 balls against Sussex, 58 from 28 balls against Glamorgan and 64 from 47 balls against Kent. The Somerset captain scored 372 runs in his seven innings during June, with an average of 53. Somerset played one LV= County Championship match with Trescothick scoring half centuries in both innings. Other players vying for the top spot during June included Sussex and England all-rounder Luke Wright who finished second with 130.83 points, Azhar Mahmood (Kent) who scored 129.8 points followed by David Hussey (Notts) and Stephen Moore (Lancashire). Marcus Trescothick said: "My goal is always to try and be the best and to maintain my form and it’s nice to be top of the tree and earn an FTI MVP award. As a batsman you know you need to score heavy runs in all forms of the game if you want to maintain your position at the top of the FTI MVP rankings and that’s what I’ll be trying to do for the rest of the season." A monthly FTI MVP award is announced throughout the summer for the leading points scorer across the LV= County Championship, Friends Life t20 and Clydesdale Bank 40 for that month. April’s award was won by 22 year old Warwickshire and England all-rounder Chris Woakes with Trescothick winning the award for May.
