Dawid Malan wins trophy having topped PCA MVP Rankings.

Dawid Malan has won the 2023 Metro Bank ODI Men’s Player of the Summer after ending the ODI summer as the number one player according to the PCA MVP Rankings.

The England batter enjoyed a brilliant ODI summer, amassing 52 MVP points and scoring 277 runs with an average of 92.3 and an impressive strike-rate of 105.7. Malan will receive a PCA MVP trophy to commemorate the achievement.

The 36-year-old became the joint fastest England player to 1,000 ODI runs this summer, having surpassed the milestone in just 21 innings, joining England legends Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott.

The left-hander produced a fantastic Match MVP display in the fourth Metro Bank ODI against New Zealand, securing 29 points at Lord’s for his sublime 127 from 114 balls which included 14 fours and three sixes as England won by 100 runs to claim the series 3-1.

Malan also played exquisitely at the Kia Oval in an innings of 96 off 95 balls in a partnership worth 199 with Ben Stokes.

The Metro Bank ODI Men’s Player of the Summer was selected by the PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings, sponsored by Argentex. The formula takes into account expected performance on every ball according to CricViz’s extensive database. The algorithm also considers the historic performances of the venue each fixture is being played at, therefore giving a more accurate reflection of the top performers in the game than traditional batting and bowling averages do.

England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler came second on the table with 43 MVP points thanks to scoring 172 runs at an average of 44, alongside seven catches and a stumping with the gloves.

The 32-year-old picked up a Match MVP award in the first Metro Bank ODI against New Zealand for his innings of 72 off 68 balls, which included five fours and two sixes as well as a catch behind the stumps.

In the third Metro Bank ODI, Buttler scored 38 off 24 balls and took three catches and a stumping. Buttler’s attention will now turn to the World Cup as England look to defend their 2019 title.

Just behind his captain on 42 MVP points is Ben Stokes who scored 235 runs at 78.3 with a brilliant strike-rate of 115.8.

The left-hander produced a phenomenal knock of 182 off just 124 balls at the Kia Oval in the third Metro Bank ODI, including 15 fours and an unbelievable nine sixes. The innings won Stokes the Match MVP and 36 points as well as being the highest ever score by an England batter in ODI cricket, surpassing Jason Roy’s 180.

The 32-year-old also scored 52 off 69 balls in the opening match of the series against New Zealand in Cardiff.

England picked a young squad to face Ireland and despite the first and last game being rained off as a no result, the new look ODI side produced some impressive cricket.

Under the captaincy of Kent’s Zak Crawley, four international debuts were awarded as England won the series 1-0 after two abandoned matches.

In the second Metro Bank ODI, Will Jacks claimed the Match MVP award thanks to a sublime innings of 94 off 88 deliveries which included seven fours and four sixes, earning him 23 MVP points.

In the final game of the series, Ben Duckett impressed earning the Match MVP for a brilliant unbeaten 107 off 78 balls, securing 22 MVP points, as England finished on 280-4 off just 31 overs as the rain came.

The culmination of the Ireland series brought the men’s international summer to a close with Jonny Bairstow claiming the Overall Men’s International MVP title on 168 MVP points. Joe Root was second with 164 points and Test captain Ben Stokes finished third on 156 MVP points.
