London To Choose From 13 For Historic Inter City Cricket Clash – 17/11/2003 London’s team for the first ever international inter city cricket match against Bridgetown, Barbados will be chosen from 13 players. Promotion Cricket The 40 overs aside match will take place at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown on Monday November 17 and will mark new developments in the worldwide promotion of the game by the English Professional Cricketers’ Association. The Captain Speaks Former Kent wicketkeeper Steve Marsh now events Director with The PCA will lead the London team which will be sponsored by leading solicitors Lees Lloyd Whitley. Steve said, ” This will be an exciting and important stage in the associations programme to raise the profile of the game around the world. ” The PCA has been at the forefront of the moves to encourage inner city masters cricket in England and now we are taking the concept overseas. ” Where better to begin a series of inner city games than in cricket-mad Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados an island that must have produced more all-time great players than any comparable area on earth? ” We are delighted that Lees Lloyd Whitley, with offices in London and on Merseyside are supporting this major initiative which will provide cricket supporters with the chance to identify with their local city just as football fans do.” London Squad The London squad will include former England fast bowlers Darren Gough, Devon Malcolm and Chris Silverwood as well as Chris Adams, skipper of the new county champions, Sussex, and recent England players, batsman Mark Ramprakash and all rounder Craig White. The Bridgetown team will be selected by The Barbados Cricket Association 375 Year Anniversary The teams will wear coloured clothing and the match will be a major feature of both the 375th anniversary celebration of the founding of Bridgetown and the islands 26th annual pro-am festival organised by Rumsey Travel.
