June Teams of the Month revealed

The PCA Teams of the Month for June have been announced with the men’s and women’s teams selected by the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX.

Three months into the domestic season, the tables are starting to take shape as June saw the continuation of the Vitality Blast for the men and women, whilst the Metro Bank One Day Cup produced some outstanding performances in the women’s game and two rounds of the Rothesay County Championship occurred alongside the shorter format.

Amazingly Hampshire women have five players in June’s team thanks to some outstanding performances with the South coast outfit sitting first in the Blast table and second in the One Day Cup.

Hampshire’s Georgia Adams enjoyed a strong month with 14 wickets and 128 runs amassing 103.94 MVP points, the 32-year-old all-rounder is joined in the side by four teammates in Rhianna Southby, Naomi Dattani, Maia Bouchier and Amanda-Jade Wellington.

Bouchier tops the rankings on 145.12 MVP points having scored 467 runs in June on her return from playing for England against New Zealand in May. The 27-year-old Hampshire opener won an incredible four Match MVPs during the month, one of which came in the One Day Cup where she smashed an unbeaten 136 off 114 balls against Essex.

Australian all-rounder Charli Knott impressed with bat and ball for The Blaze, earning 92.69 MVP points, and compatriot Wellington took 14 wickets for Hampshire at an average of 15.85 in June, securing 79.10 MVP points.

Lancashire’s Grace Potts leads the pace attack with PCA Durham Rep Katie Levick securing the spin-bowling spot.

In the men’s game, Lancashire all-rounder Liam Livingstone leads the men’s Team of the Month after finishing with an astonishing 207.30 MVP points. The 32-year-old all-rounder scored 351 runs and took 13 wickets, including coming out of First-Class retirement to take a five-fer against Kent.

Surrey all-rounder Dan Lawrence also enjoyed a lucrative month with the bat, scoring 441 runs, including a hundred in both innings against Hampshire, the first a double century and the second off just 64 balls. Yorkshire’s Will Luxton opens the batting having earnt 102.29 MVP points, the 23-year-old impressed against Warwickshire in the County Championship with 69 and 167 at Scarborough.

Somerset’s Thomas Rew takes the gloves in the side having shone in the red-ball format with hundreds against Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire. Rew’s teammate Craig Overton earns a place in the side for the third consecutive month with 130.18 MVP points.

Kent’s Matt Milnes leads the bowling line-up with ample support from Nottinghamshire duo Mohammad Ali and Liam Patterson-White.

The PCA’s MVP system works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. This enables players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings are a true reflection of performance.

The teams have been selected to create a realistic and balanced side meaning Kent’s Keith Dudgeon is unfortunate to miss out on a place finishing eighth in the rankings for the month but other bowling all-rounders secured more points. Similarly in the women’s game Mary Taylor is unlucky not find a place in the side due to Potts earning more points as a pace bowler.
