Former Warwickshire Captain turns illustrator for new children’s book Warwickshire County Cricket Club Fielding Coach and former Captain Jim Troughton recently swapped bat and ball for easel and pencil by using his artistic skills to illustrate a new children’s book; The Legend of Morvidus, The Bear the bat and the Ragged Staff. Jim – who captained Warwickshire to the LV= County Championship in 2012 – has worked with local author Rachael Wong to produce The Legend of Morvidus, with all royalties from sales of the book being donated to support the Warwickshire Cricket Board in developing youth cricket across the region. Jim Troughton, said: ” Warwickshire CCC has been a huge part of my life and the children who read The Legend of Morvidus will understand exactly why it is such as special club to so many of us. ” Getting involved in the illustrations of the book has been fantastic and hopefully its publication will not only build a greater bond between youngsters and the club, but also encourage many to get involved in cricket.” Including a foreword from Warwickshire and England batsman Ian Bell, the Legend of Morvidus is available from Friday 26 June, and Rachael and Jim will be signing copies in the Shop at Edgbaston before Birmingham Bears’ NatWest T20 Blast home game against Derbyshire Falcons on Friday 3 July. Rachael Wong said: ” Jim has put an enormous amount of time and effort to produce these wonderful illustrations and it has been great to work with him on this project, which will appeal to cricket fans of all ages and hopefully provide more cricketing opportunities for youngsters. ” Morvidus was the ancient Lord of Warwickshire and King of Britain who gave us the famous Bear and Ragged Staff badge, which is worn proudly on the Warwickshire shirt today. ” The book is based on how a young boy finds the strength to overcome his nerves ahead of his first cricket match. However, after finding out more about the bravery shown Morvidus, he goes on to excel.” {{ak_sharing}}
