The first MVP Teams of the 2025 domestic season have been announced using the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX.

Using the MVP’s unique algorithms, players have been picked based on their prowess with the bat, ball and in the field across the month of April.

In the men’s game, four rounds of the Rothesay County Championship were contested with Nottinghamshire currently at the top of the Division One standings. This is reflected in the team which features three Notts players – captain Haseeb Hameed and the bowling duo of Fergus O’Neill and Brett Hutton.

Meanwhile, Sussex opener Tom Haines sees himself captain the side after earning the most MVP points in April with 122.21. The left-handed batter was the leading run-scorer in the County Championship in April having scored 513 runs at an average of 73.28.

The bowling, sees Middlesex all-rounder Zahar Gohar named as the solitary spinner in the team after picking up 15 wickets in four games.

In the women’s game, April marks the first Tier 1 MVP side following three excellent rounds of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Warwickshire all-rounder Emily Arlott captains the team after leading the Overall MVP standings with 61.58 points. She scored 134 runs and picked up five wickets in the three games she played during the month.

Hampshire and Lancashire, who currently occupy first and second spots in the standings, have three players each in the team. These include Ella McCaughan, Rhianna Southby and Linsey Smith from Hampshire and Emma Lamb, Eve Jones and Hannah Jones from Lancashire.

Reigning PCA Women’s Player of the Year Kathryn Bryce also finds a place in the Team of the Month. The Scotland captain picked up eight wickets in April to go along with 124 runs for The Blaze.

The PCA’s MVP system works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. This enables players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings are a true reflection of performance.

The teams have been selected using a traditional, balanced side. This meant that despite having an excellent start to the season with Derbyshire, Wayne Madsen could not find a place in the middle order as Ian Holland had more points.

Likewise in the women’s game, Hampshire opener Maia Bouchier unfortunately missed as the team already featured two opening batters with more batting MVP points than the England international in McCaughan and Lamb.
