Following an incredible start to her career and having won the PCA Women’s Young Player of the Year award in 2022 as a 17-year-old, Freya Kemp has since struggled with frustrating injury setbacks. Now at 21, Kemp has transformed herself into a batting all-rounder and a vital part of England’s IT20 side.
Her essential status in the England team was highlighted by winning the Vitality IT20 Women’s Player of the Summer last month, after finishing top of the PCA MVP Rankings, powered by OFX. Kemp sat down with Beyond the Boundaries to discuss her summer so far, the adaptations she’s made to her own game and to receive her bespoke trophy.
The left-handed batter performed consistently across her 13 IT20 games.
Scoring 191 runs at an average of 47.75, earning 59.28 batting points, she also took nine wickets at 15.2-apiece, securing 60.06 bowling points. England were defeated in the final of the T20 World Cup against Australia, but Kemp showed her class with 44 in an 80-run partnership with skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Across the summer, Kemp won four Match MVP awards further portraying her importance to the team which included a 13-ball 39 against India and figures of 2-15 and impressive figures of 4-22 against Sri Lanka.
