The last women’s and men’s MVP Teams of the Month for 2025 have been selected based on the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX.
Using the MVP’s unique algorithms, players have been selected based on their excellent contributions with the bat, ball and in the field across the month of September in the Women’s Metro Bank One Day Cup, Men’s Vitality Blast and the Rothesay County Championship.
Kathryn Bryce had yet another outstanding summer which saw her win the PCA Women’s Domestic Overall MVP along with the Metro Bank One Day Cup Women’s Player of the Year this month. She ended September with 71.03 MVP points after scoring 256 runs at an average of 85.33 and taking three wickets to be named captain of this side.
Metro Bank One Day Cup winning side Lancashire have the highest representation with four players. These include opener Gaby Lewis, who scored an unbeaten 141 in the final along with captain and wicketkeeper Ellie Threlkeld and the bowling duo of Hannah Jones and Kate Cross. The pair took 12 wickets between them in September with the former getting the most bowling points in the month with 32.62.
The side’s batting is strengthened by the Surrey duo of Alice Davidson-Richards and Emma Jones after collecting 39.03 and 35.02 batting points respectively. Jones scored 221 runs from three innings, including a career best score of 141 against Essex. Davidson-Richards also scored 107 in the same game as she ended the month with 214 runs.
In the bowling department, recently retired Freya Davies retires from the game on a high after taking nine wickets in the month to earn herself 26.67 bowling points. She is joined by Surrey’s Alexa Stonehouse to offer a left-arm option after taking eight wickets in four games.
In the men’s game, Northamptonshire’s Saif Zaib is named captain after picking up the most MVP points with 99.55 following a contribution of 398 runs and six wickets. He also ended the summer as the leading run-scorer in the County Championship with 1,425 at an average of 64.77.
The bowling line-up consists of some red-balls stars, including Sussex’s Ollie Robinson who got the most bowling points with 67.85. This was mainly down to his 11-wicket haul against Worcestershire in the last game of the season. He is joined by Rothesay County Championship Player of the Year Kyle Abbott and the highest wicket-taker in the competition in Tom Taylor.
The side’s powerful batting is led by the Hampshire duo of Toby Albert and Chris Lynn after yielding 82.98 and 76.44 batting points respectively. Lynn scored 171 from just three games in the Vitality Blast, including 108 not out in the semi-finals against Northants Steelbacks, an innings which incredibly saw him hit five consecutive sixes in one over.
Opening the batting alongside Lynn is former South Africa batter Dead Elgar. The left-hander returned to the Essex team for the first time since July and went on to score two centuries in three games in September.
The PCA’s MVP system works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. This enables players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings are a true reflection of performance.
The teams have been selected using a traditional, balanced side. This meant that Warwickshire’s Georgia Davis misses out due to other all-rounders like Bryce, Georgia Adams and Orla Prendergast getting more MVP points.
Similarly in the men’s team, Surrey’s Matt Fisher misses out in favour of Somerset’s Jack Leach to ensure the side contains a front-line spinner.
