England wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones has won the Metro Bank ODI Women’s Player of the Summer for 2025 following promotion up the order to open the batting, picking up 82.07 MVP points.

Under the new regime led by head coach Charlotte Edwards and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, Jones thrived in her new role alongside Tammy Beaumont. She ended the summer as England’s leading run-scorer in ODIs having scored 302 runs at an astonishing average of 75.50.

The 32-year-old also showed her prowess behind the stumps, registering a total of nine catches and three stumpings to yield her 18 fielding points.

The Blaze player enjoyed an excellent summer to secure two Match MVPs in the first two games against the West Indies after hitting back-to-back centuries.

Having not achieved an international hundred in her career before, the wicketkeeper-batter went on to score 122 from 121 balls and took two catches in Derby to earn herself 30.06 MVP points. The game also saw Beaumont score 107 with the opening pair putting on 222 runs together.

Jones’ second Match MVP came in the following ODI in Leicester where she scored her highest international innings of 129 off just 98 balls, hitting 20 fours along the way. She also registered two catches and one stumping to pick up 32.26 MVP points.

The former Central Sparks batter ended the ODI series against the West Indies as the leading run-scorer, having scored 251 at an average of 125.50. The right-hander played a crucial role in helping England secure a 3-0 series win.

In the following ODI series against India, she scored 51 runs, including an unbeaten 46 in the second game at Lord’s to take her side to an eight-wicket victory in a rain-affected contest. England, unfortunately, ended the series on the losing side.

Jones, who previously won the Charlotte Edwards Cup Player of the Year in 2022, has won her first summer award with England. Sciver-Brunt meanwhile finished second with 63.65 points while Beaumont came home in third spot with 55.40 points.

The wicketkeeper joins her captain as one of the two winners of an England Women’s MVP Award this summer. Sciver-Brunt won the Vitality IT20 Women’s Player of the Summer after picking up 110.76 MVP points in the shortest format.

The newly-appointed England captain also finished top of the Overall Women’s International MVP table for the summer with 175.83 points. Sophia Dunkley and Jones, meanwhile, finished second and third respectively.

Upon winning the Metro Bank ODI Women’s Player of the Summer, Amy Jones said: “I have loved my new role. The West Indies series went better for me but that is part of opening and riding the highs and the lows of it and learning as quickly as you can. But I have enjoyed it and it’s been good fun.

“India presented a huge challenge which we enjoyed. As a player you want to be tested against the best.

“The biggest thing to work on with opening is the mindset. Looking ahead to the World Cup, if I have the same job I will need to adapt to different opening bowlers. I need to trust my game and reacting to the ball will be key.”

The Metro Bank ODI Women’s Player of the Summer was selected by the PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX, the PCA’s Official FX Partner. The formula takes into account expected performance on every ball according to CricViz’s extensive database. The algorithm also considers the historic performances of the venue each fixture is being played at, therefore giving a more accurate reflection of the top performers in the game than traditional batting and bowling averages do.

England will now shift their attention to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup played in India and Sri Lanka starting towards the end of September. The four-time champions will open their campaign against South Africa on 3 October at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
