PCA AMBASSADOR SMALL JOINS STRONGER KNOWING MORE CAMPAIGN

PCA Ambassador Small joins Stronger Knowing More campaign Former England and Warwickshire fast bowler Gladstone Small has joined the Stronger Knowing More campaign to raise awareness of prostate cancer, particularly in black men. Small, a PCA Ambassador, lost his father to prostate cancer and has now joined Prostate Cancer UK’s campaign which is specifically aimed at black males. Today Small will team up with West Indies fast bowling great Michael Holding at a sell-out screening in Lambeth of Fire in Babylon, a documentary which tells the story of Clive Lloyd’s all-conquering West Indies side of the 1970s and 1980s. Small and Holding will take part in a question and answer session, which will be broadcast on Facebook Live to support the Stronger Knowing More initiative. The PCA are also supporting Stronger Knowing More and have promoted the campaign to all members – past as well as present professional cricketers. Research shows that one in four black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, double the risk faced by all men. Yet only 14 per cent of black men are aware of their higher risk. The Stronger Knowing More campaign is fronted by boxer David Haye and poet Benjamin Zephaniah as well as men who have been directly affected by prostate cancer. If you are a black man over 50 you are entitled to a Prostate Specific Antigen Test if you have discussed the advantages and disadvantages with your GP or practice nurse If you are a black man aged 45 to 49 you are not entitled to a PSA test until you are 50.
