NIALL O’BRIEN SECURES ROLE AS ATHLETE MANAGER Former Kent, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire wicketkeeper/batsman Niall O’Brien has been appointed an Athlete Manager by the Essentially Group. O’Brien, who left Leicestershire at the end of the season, intends to continue his international career with Ireland and will also play in the Irish Inter-Provincial competition which was recently awarded first-class status by the International Cricket Council. But O’Brien’s day job will now be with Essentially, who are global market leaders in the Talent Management industry with a strong focus on cricket amongst other sports. ” My Roles and responsibilities will be to look after and represent promising domestic and international cricketers,” O’Brien said. ” After many experiences in the game both at county and international level I feel I have real value to add aspiring cricketers. ” My approach to work will be similar to my approach to my own playing career and way of life, hard-working, open and honest and very organised and diligent. Essentially are a superb company with a proven track record and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with them moving forward.” O’Brien, who will be 35 next week, made his first-class debut in 2004 and has so far scored more than 8,500 runs, held 474 catches and made 47 stumpings in 168 matches. He has played 75 One Day Internationals and 30 T20 Internationals for Ireland with his most recent appearance coming in an ODI against Pakistan at Malahide in August. {{ak_sharing}}
