David Munden – fund-raising testimonial FRIENDS of David Munden, the former Leicestershire and Young England player, have organised a fund-raising testimonial at Leicestershire’s Grace Road headquarters. Munden, who played Second XI cricket for Leicestershire from 1975 to 1981 and had several seasons on the staff at his domestic county, later became a well-known cricket photographer. But Munden was forced to retire from photography when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and his wife Sue has now given up her job as a teacher to care for him. Phil Bainbridge, the former Gloucestershire and Durham all-rounder, was a student with Munden at Borough Road College and is among those who have rallied around to support his former housemate by organising the testimonial evening at Grace Road on June 20. Andy Cearns, former brakeman with the Great Britain bobsleigh team, is another of the organisers. The event will include a champagne reception and hog roast and costs £ 25 if booked in advance or £ 30 on the door. Payments can be made to: Charity Event Account, sort code 60-17-24 and account number: 76099512. Further information can be obtained from info@supremeteam.org or on 07768 508721. Munden, 57, toured the West Indies with England Young Cricketers in 1976 in a side that included David Gower, Chris Cowdrey, Mike Gatting, Paul Allott, Bill Athey and Ian Gould and Bainbridge hopes that some of them will be able to attend the fund-raiser. ” We are just starting to get cranking up and getting things going,” Bainbridge said. ” He was on Leicestershire’s staff all the way through college and then he went on that Young England tour so he did play a lot of cricket. ” It would be nice to get hold of the players who went on that tour and who also went with us to the West Indies with British Colleges before that.” {{ak_sharing}}
