Harry Brook has won the 2025 Rothesay Men’s Test Player of the Summer award after topping the PCA MVP Rankings.

England’s number five enjoyed a fantastic summer scoring 539 runs as Ben Stokes’ side beat Zimbabwe and drew with India in the Rothesay Test series.

A fascinating summer of Test cricket saw England beat Zimbabwe in a one-off Test by an innings and 45 runs and then draw an enthralling series with India 2-2. The Rothesay Test series ended in dramatic fashion at the Kia Oval as India won by six runs, despite mesmerising hundreds from Brook and Joe Root.

The Rothesay Men’s Test Player of the Summer was selected by the PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX, the PCA’s Official FX Partner. The formula takes into account expected performance on every ball according to CricViz’s extensive database. The algorithm also considers the historic performances of the venue each fixture is being played at, therefore giving a more accurate reflection of the top performers in the game than traditional batting and bowling averages do.

Brook adds to his Metro Bank ODI Men’s Player of the Summer award from 2024 and ends fellow Yorkshireman Root’s hold over the Test award having won the accolade in 2023 and 2024.

The 26-year-old earnt 143.01 MVP points thanks to scoring 539 runs at an impressive average of 53.9 alongside showing his fielding capabilities with 15 catches – far more than any outfielder. Showing safe hands in the slips, his most memorable dismissal of the summer was an incredible one-handed effort against Zimbabwe to dismiss Wesley Madhevere off the bowling of Ben Stokes.

The Yorkshireman produced some fascinating innings with the bat across the course of the summer, scoring two hundreds.

Arguably the most impressive of which came at the Kia Oval as England fell to a narrow six-run defeat after attempting to chase down 374 as India won the final Test. Brook’s blistering knock of 111 off 98 balls was his 10th Test hundred.

Brook also scored a brilliant 158 off 234 balls in the second Test against India to go with 99 off 112 balls in the first Test at his home ground.

Following the conclusion of the fifth Test match against India, Brook received his Rothesay Men’s Test Player of the Summer trophy – produced by Mappin & Webb – at the Kia Oval and on winning the award, said:

“We thought we had the game in the bag when Rooty and I were batting and we thought if we could get a couple of big overs in then the game would be done, but there have been collapses throughout the series.

“My thought process was hit as many runs as quickly as possible and finish the game, it didn’t quite work this time and with hindsight I wouldn’t have played that shot.

“I played alright this series, I was devasted I could have won the game yesterday but I’m just happy to contribute to as many games as possible.

“It’s been an intense series, it’s been awesome to be part of and a great advert for Test cricket.”

England captain Ben Stokes finished second in the rankings with 139.07 MVP points thanks to scoring 313 runs at an average of 39.13 and taking 20 wickets at 24.05 apiece, alongside a catch and a run out.

The 34-year-old picked up two Match MVP awards during the summer, his most impressive game coming in the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford, earning 49.37 MVP points for his battling 141 runs alongside figures of 5-72 – his first Test five-fer since 2017 – and finished the summer as England’s second leading wicket-taker.

England opener Ben Duckett ended the Test summer in third on the MVP points table securing 138.67 points, thanks to scoring 602 runs at an average of 60.2.

The 30-year-old left-hander picked up a Match MVP in the first Test against India taking home 49.09 points thanks to his innings of 62 and 149 as England won by five wickets.

Duckett also leads the England Men’s Overall MVP Rankings on 220.56 points with Brook in second.

The Men’s Test squad will return to action on 21 November in the first Ashes Test match against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. England will be looking to regain the Ashes from their arch-rivals after losing the urn back in 2018.
