Wicket-keeper batter Buttleman developed from the Essex age groups through to the 1st XI. A constant in the Essex 2nd XI, he finally got his chance at 1st Team action when his seniors Adam Wheater and Michael Pepper were both out injured. It was realised that his game was best suited to the shorter formats, where he amassed 36 appearances for Essex in the One Day Cup and Blast. He left the club at the end of the 2023 season.
