29-year-old Tom Wood was a heavy run getter for the Derbyshire 2nd XI, averaging over 100 in 2016, he was named the Player of the Year and rewarded with his first senior contract. He was however released at the end of the season. This however did not stop him playing for the 2nd XI and in local leagues, he re-signed as cover following the COVID outbreak and has continued to play a role at the county since then.
