Barkby United CC – Director of Cricket
The Role:
Barkby United Cricket Club seeks a passionate cricket personality to lead our cricket strategy at BUCC. The DOC will work alongside the club’s leadership team to develop & cement a culture which promotes sustainable & lasting success.
Whilst a proportion of this role will focus on the theoretical side of club cricket (structures, policies & systems), the club seeks a hands-on DOC who will relish the opportunity to work with individual cricketers. Whether it be supporting captains with decision making, providing ad-hoc 1-to-1 technical coaching, or taking a player to one side to remind them of the expected standards, the DOC will look forward to delivering a personal touch.
Barkby United Cricket Club:
In 2025 BUCC will celebrate its 175th anniversary. It is a club which boasts proud heritage of grassroots cricket & positive community engagement.
Barkby currently fields 3 x Saturday teams, who play in the Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket League (Div. 2, 5 & 9), 1 x Sunday team who play in the Grantham & Melton League, & 1 x mid-week team. This structure is fed by an internal junior cricket system, which offers coaching & fixtures from ages 10 – 19.
The coming years will present exciting opportunities to Barkby, not least of these prospects is the permanent development of a 2nd ground & the expansion of our geographical catchment area. The club’s internal structure must be best prepared to seize, relish & maximise these opportunities.
In previous eras, Barkby has based its cricketing ethos on the mantra of a village club who punched above its weight. This mantra promoted principles of home-grown talent, clubmanship & humility. Whilst these principles must remain at the forefront of our future strategy, the club’s leadership team must develop a new mantra which will define a new era of cricket at Barkby.
Remuneration & Commitment:
BUCC recognises that finding the right individual will be key to the success of this role. Therefore, aspects such as specific duties, time-commitment & remuneration are all subject to discussion & negotiation. The club seeks an individual who is hungry to leave a lasting legacy through their passion for grassroots cricket – and whilst this role will be fairly remunerated, this hunger must remain the individual’s primary motivation.
