PCA Masters v Yorkshire XI
The PCA Masters took on a Yorkshire XI at Sheffield Collegiate CC and after losing the toss, were asked to bat. They were soon in trouble losing early wickets before former West Indian batsman Phil Simmons and ex Leicestershire all rounder Carl Crowe rescued the innings, in their partnership of 90 for the seventh wicket. The Masters total of 192 from 40 overs was competitive but probably below par on a decent pitch.
Former England bowler Chris Lewis struck with the first ball of the innings for the Masters, but the Yorkshire XI recovered and were well set until the PCA’s Gladstone Small was introduced into the attack.
Gladstone pushed back the years taking a couple of wickets to leave Yorkshire reeling on 74-4 before Richard Pyrah (43) and Joe Sayers (53 not out) dug deep and built a hundred run partnership to take the young Tykes to the brink of a well-earned victory.
