Giles supports Marie Curie’s Christmas celebrations
In the lead-up to the festive period, Ashley Giles spent a morning visiting patients at the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead. Playing Santa for the day, he handed out some early Christmas presents to the residents of the hospice, and met members of the Marie Curie staff.
Throughout the summer, the England team have supported the Marie Curie “Sun Safety – Don’t Get Caught Out” Campaign, in association with NatWest, to raise awareness of the dangers of spending too much time in the sun; the whole squad attended a fundraising auction dinner plus Giles has promoted Sun Safety campaign messages previously, participating in radio interviews.
Visiting the hospice allowed Giles to see another part of Marie Curie’s work, away from the cricket grounds, and the Ashes hero was welcomed by many of the patients who had supported England throughout the summer and enjoyed the team’s successes. A highlight of the Christmas activities organised by the hospice, Giles was quizzed by the majority of patients on life as a cricketer, the Ashes and the subsequent celebrations!
