Gettys Garden Party 6th and 7th September
The Garden Party is an annual event held in the beautiful grounds of Sir John Paul getty’s estate in Wormsley and involves a 6-a-side cricket match on one of the most beautiful cricket pitches in England. This year, due to popular demand, the PCA held two consecutive eventsin early September. The 6th September saw teams from Scottish & Newcastle, Barclays Global Investors, Chicago Board of Trade, High Finance, Lees Lloyd Whitley, the FT and Boundary Sports, each led by a celebrity cricket captain, compete on the pitch for the winner’s title. 200 spectators enjoyed a champagne reception, 3-course lunch and afternoon tea. Vasbert Drakes, Chris Lewis, Vince Wells, Devon Malcolm, Jimmy Adams, Paul Taylor and Phil Simmons led their teams out. The competition was high and a close fought final between Scottish & Newcastle and Boundary Sports saw Boundary Sports the victors, before being handed the trophy at the prize presentation.
The following day, teams from Addiscombe H&CC, 3g Comms, Agilisys, Keith Young, Marketform and OneMove competed against each other. Close of play saw 3g Comms claiming the overall prize. Spirits were high amoungst the spectators, and the teams competing on the pitch had much encouragement from their supporters in the crowd.
Over £13,500 was raised over the two days for the PCA Benevolent Fund through raffles and auctions led by cricketing auctioneers Ed Giddins and Chris Cowdrey. The beautiful weather made for two very enjoyable, quintessentially English days in the country.
