England t20 victory after One Day Series whitewash- 07/11/11After a successful summer against teams from the subcontinent, England found adjusting to conditions in India far from easy as they slumped to a 5-0 whitewash in the One Day series before recovering some pride with victory in the solitary t20 international. India, World Champions in the 50-over format and hell-bent on revenge after their travails in England, were always going to be tough to breakdown but no England batsman made a hundred while containing India’s batsmen proved nigh on impossible. Steven Finn was the biggest success story of the tour and heads the early running in the Winter FTI MVP. In the absence of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, Finn led the one-day attack with 8 wickets, 7 of which came in his last 3 matches as he returned figures of 2-44, 3-45 and 2-47. The highly impressive Middlesex man who was regularly clocked in excess of 90mph also managed to maintain good disciplines conceding runs at a respectable 5.06 runs per over. He then went even better in the t20 international taking 3-22 from his 4 overs to set up England’s win. Tim Bresnan is second in the Winter FTI MVP having scored 61 runs and taken 7 wickets. In the one-dayers he managed just 5 wickets in 5 matches and 1 maiden in 43 overs as India’s batsmen refused to get bogged down. But the t20 proved more successful as he helped Finn destroy India’s top-order with 2-19. Bresnan is marginally ahead of Finn in the t20 FTI MVP courtesy of his slightly better economy rate. Samit Patel is third and is fast establishing himself in the shorter forms. He was one of England’s more consistent batters in the ODIs recording 5 double figure scores including a 43-ball 70 in the third match, while he also managed 4 wickets with a best of 3-57 and an economy rate of 6 runs per over. Kevin Pietersen was another player who produced a string of consistent scores throughout the one-day series without ever playing the really big match-winning innings. His best performance of the tour came in England’s victory in the T20 international where he made 53 off 39 deliveries despite a broken finger. In the ODIs he made 19, 46, 64 and 41. Pietersen is ranked 7th in the ODI FTI MVP, 3rd in the T20 FTI MVP and 4th overall. Craig Kieswetter is fifth overall and second in the Winter ODI FTI MVP after improving as the series went on. After a couple of single-figure scores he produced 36 of 38, 29 off 18 and 63 from 64 balls in the last one-dayer, which saw a dramatic England collapse after his demise. Kieswetter finished the summer ODI FTI MVP in second and the t20 FTI MVP in third. Alastair Cook, who topped the overall summer FTI MVP and finished second in the summer ODI FTI MVP made a brace of 60s in India taking his tally for the series to 133 runs, which sees him joint sixth with Jonathan Trott, who made 202 runs with a best of 98. Ravi Bopara endured a tough one-day series scoring just 80 runs and failing to take a wicket in 14 overs but flourished in the t20 international with 2-16 and 14 not out to see England home. He lies 8th overall, 10th in the ODI FTI MVP and 4th in the t20 FTI MVP. For more information and to see the full tables and leaders in individual competitions click on the links below.
