Chaminda Vaas Leads the FTI FPt20 MVP - 28/06/10Chaminda Vaas heads the FTI FPt20 MVP after a string of match-winning performances for the Northamptonshire Steelbacks. The veteran southpaw all-rounder, who has played 322 ODIs for Sri Lanka, scored 73 off 49 balls including 11 fours and a six against Durham before taking 3-23 from 3.2 overs as the Steelbacks bagged a 30-run win. Vaas has relished his promotion to opener in the t20 hitting 29 fours and six maximums in his 250 runs, which have come at a strike rate of 1.29 runs per ball. He has taken 18 wickets, three times taking three wickets in the match and has conceded a miserly 6.09 runs per over. Samit Patel is second with 307 runs and 12 wickets. The former England all-rounder has a real MVP pedigree having finished seventh and second overall in 2009 and 2008 respectively and his performances in the FPt20 have seen him rise to eighth in this season's overall FTI MVP campaign. Patel has helped Nottinghamshire Outlaws open a six-point lead in the North group scoring his runs at a rate of 1.41 runs per ball. He has struck 22 fours and 7 sixes, whilst with the ball his economy rate is a healthy 6.83 runs per over. West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard is third having contributed 201 runs and 14 wickets for Somerset. The big-hitter from Trinidad and Tobago, who made 89 from just 45 balls on debut at Lord's against the Panthers, has smashed 11 fours and 18 sixes but in his last two games he has been to the fore with the ball taking 4-15 and 3-16. His brand of cutters and quicker yorkers have proved tough to get away as he has conceded at just 6.20 runs per over. Defending t20 MVP winner Darren Stevens is fourth. The Kent batting all-rounder, whose efforts have been rewarded by a Lions call-up, has scored 242 runs from the middle order at a strike rate of 1.41. He has also taken 10 wickets with an economy rate of 7.52, not a bad effort considering he has been entrusted with the new ball in the powerplay overs. Stevens is third in the overall FTI MVP with 1057 runs and 18 wickets. Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid has taken 20 wickets in the FPt20 and contributed 98 useful lower-order runs as the Tykes maintain their t20 challenge in the North. Rashid concedes his runs at 7.49 runs per over but is always looking to take wickets. He has taken 3 wickets three times in this year's campaign and finished with 4-20 in his last outing against Leicestershire Foxes. Only once has he failed to take a wicket. With the bat his runs have come at a strike rate of 1.31 runs per ball and include six fours and two sixes. Overseas batsmen David Hussey and Scott Styris are sixth and seventh respectively. Hussey has 385 runs at 1.52 runs per ball, smashing 26 fours and 16 sixes. Styris has 216 runs at 1.62 runs per ball, 106 of them coming against Surrey at Chelmsford off just 50 balls in one of the most spectacular knocks in t20 history as the Eagles chased down their target of 188 with one ball to spare. The Kiwi all-rounder has hit 14 fours and 13 maximums and also taken 9 wickets. He has contributed 22% of Essex's competition runs.
