CAREER TOOLKIT

The Career Toolkit Programme

The Career Toolkit is a unique careers programme developed specifically for professional sportspeople by Mulraine Sport (a division of Mulraine Consulting Ltd). Charlie Mulraine is an ex-professional cricketer and is already working with the PCA to develop the Placement & Learning Access Network (PLAN)

Created as an additional support to the Performance Lifestyle service, the Careers Toolkit has been specifically designed to assist past players in making the right career choices and to help them market themselves more effectively.

We provide expert help and tailor-made services that have been born out of a wealth of experience within recruitment and professional sport. Binding this together is a genuine concern for the interests of past professional cricketers, combined with a passion and commitment to help them fulfil their potential.

The Careers Toolkit is made up of 5 core modules:

1. The Life and Work Wheel
2. Time Line
3. Personal Profile and Career Match
4.
CV and Application Letter Writing and Practical Interview Training
5. Personal Recruiter

The Life and Work Wheel

Every individual has talents, ambitions and priorities that are unique to them. The Life and Work Wheel is a simple exercise which enables you to, recognise the key values that motivate you, identify whether these values are being met, learn how values influence your decisions, develop a better self-awareness and to truly understand what you really want and how to obtain it.

Time Line

The Time Line is an exercise that helps to establish patterns of behaviour, identifies the reasons for these patterns, highlights strengths and weaknesses and begins a process of identifying future goals.

Personal Profile and Career Match

We will put together a personal profile which will outline your working characteristics, training requirements, career advice, strengths and limitations. In order to create this document you will need complete a simple questionnaire. The responses are analysed to provide accurate information on your working style, capacity to work under pressure as well as an insight into your personality, communication skills, levels of confidence and creativity and social and technical skills. We will then carry out a 1.5-hour telephone interview based upon a structured career advice questionnaire designed by Loughborough University, which provides career matching. After this telephone interview has taken place, we will provide you with a lengthy document which covers up to 60 carefully matched career choices, and which will be discussed in depth with your personal recruiter.

CV and Application Letter Writing

In such a competitive market it is vital that a CV and Application Letter accurately reflect your unique selling points. We help to answer common questions:

  • Why do I need a CV?
  • What should my CV actually look like?
  • Am I able to tailor my CV to suit different jobs?
  • What style should I adopt for an application letter?

By using the detail from the Personal Profile, we are able to create CVs and Letters that are individual and focus on your strengths and achievements.

Practical Interview Training

We provide expert tips and practical interview techniques to cover the following areas:

  • Preparing for an interview
  • Company research
  • Interview styles – competency based, role play, presentations
  • Communication tools – listening, body language
  • Offer negotiation.
