Allrounders Dominate t20 Cricket, with Darren Stevens Taking the Lead - 21/06/10Allrounders dominate t20 cricket so it's no surprise to see the top five in the FTI t20 MVP rankings all contribute with both bat and ball. Defending t20 MVP, Darren Stevens, has revelled in his new role of opening bowler snaring 3-17 against Surrey Lions at the Oval to take his wicket tally to eight and his economy rate to a respectable 6.74 runs per over. The Kent player's stronger suit has produced 212 runs at a strike rate of 1.42 runs per ball including 14 fours and 9 sixes. In the match against the Lions Stevens had made 33 off just 20 balls - his fifth score of over thirty - when the rain arrived to scupper Kent's chances. Kieron Pollard has been mightily impressive. The powerful West Indian, who nearly hit one over the pavilion roof at Lord's in his debut performance for Somerset of 89 off 45 balls, has made 209 runs and taken 11 wickets. He possesses a strike rate of 1.87 runs per ball and a healthy economy rate with the ball off 6.31 runs per over. He has hit 11 fours and 18 sixes and when he missed out with the bat against Kent at Beckenham he proceeded to take 4-15 with the ball to jump to second spot. Chaminda Vaas is another overseas star enjoying a fine t20 competition. Pushed up the order to pinch hit the Sri Lankan has repaid the faith whacking 54 off 42 against Worcestershire and 50 off 36 against Leicestershire. He has made 168 runs and taken 12 wickets with an economy rate of 6.33. His best performances with the ball also came against Worcestershire and Leicestershire where he returned figures of 2-13 and 2-24 respectively. He lies third. Ryan ten Doeschate, who leads the overall FTI MVP, might see that lead dwindle as he's out of action for a few weeks with a torn calf. The Dutchman is fourth in the FTI t20 MVP after some world-class hitting which has seen him strike 21 fours and 19 sixes. He made 98 off 47 balls against the Kent Spitfires, 102 off 54 against the Middlesex Panthers and was on course for another big score with 48 off 31 against Somerset at Taunton when injury struck. His strike rate is a ‘Pollardesque' 1.81 runs per ball. Lancashire's Tom Smith is fifth with 255 runs and three wickets. The left-hander has made two fifties and two forties as well as having taken 2-13 versus Yorkshire. He has yet to strike a maximum but has hit 27 fours and contributed a staggering 30% of Lancashire's competition runs.
