Big Bike Ride (BBR) 2013
Seventy riders and the BBR support team arrived at Lord's safe and sound, exhausted and elated on Tuesday 22 October after a gruelling five days on the road.
A massive fundraising target of £200,000 for the PCA Benevolent Fund and the Tom Maynard Trust (TMT) had been set, and at the present time, the fund stands at an amazing £215,000.
Both charities are appreciative of the overwhelmingly generous sponsors, who offered tremendous financial support and those who fed, watered, and put us up, as well as those that patched up both our bikes and us when we needed help.
Matt Maynard said, “Thank you very much for your amazing support. It was an emotional five days for all of those involved and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone who contributed – not just those who went through the pain barrier, but everyone who made it happen.”
Marcus Trescothick said, “It was fantastic that so many players from across the country came together to support the two charities. It was their opportunity to give something back and support fellow professionals who are less fortunate than themselves.”
Finally, Jason Ratcliffe, Assistant CEO of the PCA, commented, “As a trustee of the Benevolent Fund and the TMT, it was a Herculean effort by all those concerned on some of the most challenging routes of the country and both charities are indebted to each and every cyclist who put themselves through the mill.”
