Michael Vaughan at the Team England Golf Day

Team England Golf Day

The 2008 Team England Golf Day took place before the ODI at The Oval, with members of the current England squad turning up at the quintessential Hanbury Manor course in Hertfordshire. The sun shone for the golfers, and the weather held out for the BBQ and prize-giving at the end, with the PCA's Chief Executive, Sean Morris, lifting the trophy!

Supported by England lawyers Harbottle & Lewis, the day was a relaxed, informal event with the teams joined on the course by current England players, England team management and former England players. The guests had the opportunity to have their swing analysed by the PCA's golf professionals, and also short and long game clinics were available.

In addition to the Team England Player Partnership's family provision programme (during international fixtures), the invitation was extended to the England players and team management's families. They spent the day relaxing over lunch and enjoyed an afternoon in the spa, whilst the children were being entertained in the hotel's crèche facilities, before all regrouped for the BBQ and prize-giving.

Mike Gatting took home the Longest Drive prize, Paul Blanchard from Surrey CCC took the 'Nearest the Pin', and the eventual winning team of Sean Morris, Gianluca Vialli, Keith Impey and Matt Vandrau, had to secure their victory based on their score from the back 9, having tied with Michael Vaughan's team! The day was a great success, thoroughly enjoyed by players, sponsors and families alike.

Graeme Swann at Team England Community Day

Swann And Anderson Support Team England Community Day

Wollaton CC in Nottinghamshire, an ECB Focus Club with over 250 junior members, hosted a Team England Community Day earlier this month, in association with ASDA Kwik Cricket. The session was led by the PCA's ex-Nottinghamshire CCC bowler Jimmy Hindson, with James Anderson and Graeme Swann on hand to offer their expert advice and participate in the practice drills and a game of Kwik Cricket with the youngsters.

Sixty children from local primary schools were invited to Wollaton CC for the afternoon, to take part in the coaching session and they had the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with the England players. James and Graeme gave tips on healthy eating, batting, bowling and even biometrics. The day culminated in a signing session and an opportunity to ask the guys questions, prompting some honest responses about facing Andrew Flintoff!

Michelle Payne from ASDA said, "ASDA is delighted to be supporting the ASDA Kwik Cricket scheme in our drive to get kids to be healthy and active."
