Past Players ReminisceBright sunshine greeted the PCA’s second Annual Past Player Lunch at Edgbaston on Tuesday 1st July 2008, which was attended by over 50 former professional cricketers. The conditions were perfect, allowing Warwickshire and Gloucestershire to play a full day in their County Championship match. Whilst Ian Bell scored a double hundred for Warwickshire, the past players reminisced about their playing days and updated each other about what they had done since retiring from the game. Ex-Gloucestershire and Warwickshire players were, unsurprisingly, the main attendees, but most of the 18 First Class Counties had representatives at the lunch. The day was also used to promote the PCA Benevolent Fund and the fantastic work it does helping former players who have fallen on hard times, or who need support or advice, both emotional and financial. The lunch was part of the PCA’s continuing commitment to building affinity and providing services to all its members, not just current players, but past players as well. The PCA will be holding another Past Players’ day in 2008, which we hope many more will be able to attend. Once you have played professional cricket, you are a PCA member and remain a member for life, even once your playing days are over. Advisory Investment Management Role for Ex-Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Batsman Dean Hodgson“After nine years as a professional (which ended in 1995), I was extremely fortunate to move into a new career that I have thoroughly enjoyed to date. As a former county representative, I am very much aware of the support systems, developed through the PCA during the last few years, to help existing and former players to maximise their potential and provide guidance in times of need. As an employee of Williams de Broë, an independent investment house, I am hopeful that I can assist in preserving the Association’s wealth in difficult times, and provide them with both income and capital growth to sustain the work the Association does, over the coming years. This is an ideal opportunity for me to put something back into the game that has provided me with so much, in terms of enjoyment and travel opportunities, as well as significant interpersonal skills development. We operate independent stock and fund selection, which is based on rigorous research processes, with no in-house fund sales and a comprehensive reporting package, including regular valuations, an online valuation service and detailed tax reporting package. I am happy to extend advisory and discretionary management services to individuals, as well as trustees of Private Trusts and Charities, where appropriate.” Dean can be contacted via email Dean.Hodgson@wdebroe.com or tel: 01225 341580. |
