England players get hands dirty for NatWest CricketForce

England players turned out for the NatWest CricketForce 2009 projects across the country. This is a volunteering initiative aimed at rejuvenating the nation's cricketing facilities ahead of the season, and is the largest volunteer programme in British sport. Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann were joined by Mark Ramprakash and Mark Butcher and a number of the victorious England Women's World Cup team at Ashtead Cricket Club in Surrey to spruce up the club's facilities. Other showcase clubs were Ipswich CC where Luke Wright and Mike Gatting lent a hand, and Chris Tremlett helped out at Calne CC in Wiltshire.

ECB has launched 'The Great Exhibition' which will showcase an unprecedented summer of world-class cricket which will see England clash with West Indies, before the World Twenty20 and Ashes series against Australia. The Women’s World Twenty20, run alongside the men’s event, and a wealth of domestic cricket means there will be ample opportunity for fans to catch a glimpse of their cricketing heroes. Andrew Strauss was at the launch at Lord's and said, “The Great Exhibition just underlines the fact that this is a huge summer for the game of cricket, not just the England team.” The England team will be supporting the campaign throughout the 2009 summer, hoping to attract an increased fan base to the game.

England players help launch npower Urban Cricket

England players Graeme Swann, Ravi Bopara and Stuart Broad, along with his father Chris, all turned out this month to support npower's Urban Cricket initiative. The new facilities in Manchester and Nottingham are purpose-built to provide local children with a permanent space in which to learn and practice cricket. Launched in 2006, npower Urban Cricket is a grassroots project run in conjunction with the ECB to get more children playing cricket.
