Success for Skin Cancer Screening Campaign

The PCA’s Skin Cancer Screening Campaign has been an outstanding success in 2009. In partnership with sk:n, all professional cricket players, across the 18 counties have been screened by visiting dermatologists, with any abnormalities immediately checked out.

The purple image shows Umpire Jeremy Lloyd’s face through the scanner, which was used to detect sun damage on the players and 24 First Class umpires.

The campaign has received much media coverage, both nationally through the BBC and Sky and locally, helping to raise awareness of the risks of skin cancer, which is the second most common cancer in young adults. With cricketers and umpires spending so much time outside in the sun, regular screening and use of hats and sunscreen is extremely important and the campaign will continue across the summer at domestic matches, to raise awareness amongst the cricketing public.
