PCA Annual Business Summit 2009

The PCA’s Annual Business Summit was held on 21st April, and was hosted by Lord’s for the first time since its inception in 2005. On a gloriously sunny day, in excess of 200 delegates and ‘903 Club’ members enjoyed a networking lunch in the Nursery Pavilion, browsing a number of exhibitors’ stands while sipping spicy rum cocktails, courtesy of Cockspur.

The Summit, themed ‘Team Matters’ commenced after lunch, when John Inverdale chaired a fascinating question and answer session with England Ashes winning captain, Michael Vaughan. Managing Director of Birmingham City, Karren Brady, followed, wowing a captivated audience with a superb presentation, highlighting how her club turned from broken no-hopers, to the profitable, entertaining franchise playing out of the prestigious St Andrew’s Stadium today. SAS Major Floyd Woodrow MBE DCM then delivered an inspiring talk entitled ‘Leading teams at the far right hand edge of resilience’. The Summit was brought to a close by Italian footballing genius Gianluca Vialli, who engaged in an insightful interview with host, John Inverdale.

Guests were then treated to a champagne networking reception, mixing with speakers and a number of PCA Ambassadors invited down for the Summit. The PCA would like to thank sponsors, Jardine Lloyd Thompson and Volkswagen UK LTD, for their continued support of the PCA Annual Business Summit.

PCA Charity Golf Day

On 11th May the PCA held its Annual Charity Golf Day in aid of the PCA Benevolent Fund at a sunny Stoke Park Golf Club.

The list of PCA Ambassadors which joined the teams was fantastic this year with names including; Paul Collingwood, James Anderson, Jon Batty, Gladstone Small, John Emburey, Mike Gatting, David Graveney, Ian Harvey, Dean Headley, Stuart Law, Rodney Hogg, Ed Giddins, Devon Malcolm, Phil DeFreitas, Jeff Thomson, Chris Schofield and Nadeem Shahid.

The sun shone not only on the course, but also on JLT as both their teams took first and second places in the competition.

The day made significant funds for the Benevolent Fund from the Beat the Pro competition, a raffle and a silent auction.

The beginning of the International Test season started at Lord’s in May where the PCA hosted its traditional pre-match breakfast.

All PCA guests were entertained over a hearty breakfast in the Thomas Lord Suite at Lord’s whilst listening to Radio’s Pat Murphy interview West Indies’ Colin Croft and England’s Darren Gough, Graham Gooch and Alec Stewart, telling stories of their time at the crease and predicting the day’s play result.
