Tourism Authority Sign Up With The Professional Cricketers' Association - 07/05/2008
The PCA is delighted to announce that the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) has become their latest senior commercial partner, joining a network of major stakeholders within the game.
The focus of this year's partnership will secure the BTA a number of event led initiatives, promoting Barbados in the run up to England's tour of the West Indies early next year.
The highlights of this year's programme will revolve around three major events in the first week of June.
The Cricket Legends of Barbados team will be touring the UK to play the PCA Masters - a representative XI of current and former county and international cricketers. Captained by England opening batsman and current Sky Sports Commentator Nick Knight, the Masters will take on the Legends at the Brit Oval on Sunday 8th June in a special Twenty20 Challenge Match, starting at 2.30pm
The Legends team will feature former Barbados greats including Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Vasbert Drakes, Ezra Mosley and Sherwin Campbell.
The Barbados Legends will also appear at a special dinner at the Grange City Hotel on Thursday 5th June, hosted by John Inverdale and featuring special guests Sir Garry Sobers, Wes Hall and Charlie Griffiths.
In addition, the week's activity includes a private corporate cricket day arranged by the PCA at Sir John Paul Getty's cricket ground, Wormsley, on Friday 6th June.
Petra Roach, European Vice President of Marketing & Sales at the BTA said ‘ We are delighted to be partnering with the PCA for these prestigious events. It is a real privilege to have so many of our esteemed Cricket Legends of Barbados visiting England in June and we are sure everyone who attends their matches and the gala dinner will have a wonderful time. We Barbadians are renowned for our love of cricket, so Barbados will be the ideal place for England fans to base themselves during the tour next year.'
Sean Morris, Chief Executive of the PCA said: "I am delighted to announce the Barbados Tourism Authority as a new Senior Commercial Partner of the PCA. The PCA will help to stage several bespoke events throughout June with the Barbados Tourism Authority, promoting Barbados as the number one destination to watch the England cricket team during their tour of the West Indies in January 2009."
