The firm will now broaden its offer to PCA members to include a full range of legal services, including practical advice on conveyancing, wills, employment, matrimonial issues, personal injury, road traffic prosecutions and accidents. Lees Lloyd Whitley will also advise members on contract issues as well provide commercial advice to former playing members who may be setting up their own business.
The PCA safeguards the rights and welfare of past and current first class cricketers, provides a range of educational, insurance, financial and legal services and promotes the sport of cricket.
The Lees Lloyd Whitley team will be led by managing partner Graham Smith, a keen cricket fan and amateur player, who has also advised individual PCA members for several years.
Managing Partner Graham Smith
Graham Smith comments: “We are delighted to be appointed by the PCA. Although high profile, professional cricketers do not receive the benefits enjoyed by other sports. The services that we offer will be at preferential rates, or completely free, and helps the PCA support its members.”
Lees Lloyd Whitley is actively involved in community cricket. At Birkenhead Park Cricket Club it has worked with the public sector to secure £750,000 to open an indoor cricket school for use by local clubs and the community.
It also helps to raise funds for the PCA by organising various events, PCA Masters challenge matches and it sponsors the annual Pro-Am Cricket Festival in Barbados.
PCA Chief Executive Richard Bevan
PCA group chief executive Richard Bevan added: “The PCA have developed an excellent relationship with Lees Lloyd Whitely as a business partner over the past two years. This association has now been extended with Lees Lloyd Whitley being appointed by the PCA in the crucial area of legal services.
As an association, it is our duty to give our members the best possible support on and off the field and securing the legal services of premier law firm Lees Lloyd Whitley underpins this responsibility.”
