FICA Announces New Full Member - 29/11/2007

Federation of International Cricketers' Association ( FICA) Chief Executive Tim May today announced that the Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has been admitted to Full Membership of the international player association, FICA.

The membership of FICA now encompasses eight of the ten Test Playing Nations.

CWAB was established in September 2004 with a primary objective of promoting and protecting the general welfare of cricketers within the country.

CWAB additionally engages in numerous projects for the benefit of the wider Bangladeshi Community.

All first class cricketers registered with the Bangladesh Cricket Board are entitled to be members of CWAB. Presently CWAB have over 170 members.

FICA approved of the application for membership from CWAB, following a visit from May to CWAB's offices in Dhaka.

Prior to membership being approved, a thorough process of due diligence was performed by May to ensure that CWAB was able to satisfy the minimum performance and structure requirements of any prospective member.

"I am delighted to welcome CWAB as a member of FICA - Bangladesh are young in International cricketing experience and have much to offer the world of cricket - FICA believe it is imperative that the players' positions and concerns of all countries are represented with equal vigor to the ICC and the addition of CWAB to our membership obviously is a significant step to achieving this objective" May said

Debabrata Paul , convenor of CWAB stated "The benefits of being aligned with FICA are many - not the least being a formalised line of communication between our players and FICA. It is important that the concerns and positions of Bangladesh players are properly represented to the International Cricket Council (ICC) - players worldwide have recognised FICA as their representative on matters of collective interest and we are thrilled that CWAB will be able to contribute to and benefit from such representations."
