Boje Climbs MVP Table But Bopara Remains Top

Such was his lead after the first two rounds of the county season that Ravi Bopara hangs on to the top spot in the overall PCA MVP despite being unable to add to his points tally this week. While most teams played two Friends Provident Trophy (FPT) games and a Championship (LVCC) match, Essex were involved in the tourist match against New Zealand. Bopara has dropped out of the top ten for the FPT but is the leading player in the LVCC.

Nicky Boje is the big mover in the top ten racking up a further 37 batting points for his double hundred against Worcestershire, which was over 40% of Northant's total. Boje, one of 7 non-England-qualified players in the overall top ten, has scored 398 runs and taken 11 wickets across both competitions and has earned points as captain for games won.

Yasir Arafat's wicket-taking ability has seen him climb to third spot overall, second in the FPT. Arafat helped Kent to two bank holiday FPT victories snaring seven wickets in the process. He now has 18 wickets in all cricket.

Matt Prior is a non-mover at four after another consistent week with bat and gloves. The Sussex and former England gloveman has had seven innings this season failing to reach fifty just once. He has 437 runs, seven catches and two stumpings.

Azhar Mahmood drops a couple of places in the overall MVP to number five as Kent were without a Championship game this week, but his strong showing in the FPT win against Surrey, where he scored a quickfire 62 and removed dangerman Mark Ramprakash, still earned him valuable points.

Mahmood's county colleague Martin van Jaarsveld leads the FPT MVP table but is down to sixth overall. The South African has scored 258 runs in the one-day competition at just better than a run-a-ball.

Hylton Ackerman is a new entry into the top ten at number seven. Ackerman has two hundreds in the LVCC and one in the FPT racking up an impressive total of 412 runs for the season.

Ackerman's fellow countryman Lance Klusener is another new entry into the top ten. The combative all-rounder, who slides into eighth spot, has 428 runs overall and while he has yet to score a century he has never failed to reach double figures and has chipped in with useful wickets.

Surrey's first ever Kolpak signing, Pedro Collins is ranked 24th in each of the competitions but ninth overall. He has taken 15 wickets many of these top order batsmen, whom he has prised out with late swing. Don't expect him to score many runs, however. To date he has just 16.

Tim Bresnan clings on to tenth spot after taking 4-51 against Nottinghamshire in the first innings of their Championship match at Headingley. The bowling all-rounder has 119 runs and 13 wickets.
