Swann extends his lead in the England FTI MVP - 23/08/10

Graeme Swann has extended his lead at the top of the England FTI MVP despite his team's reverse at the Brit Oval in the third npower Test against Pakistan. Swann emerged from the match with credit after returning figures of 4-68 and 3-50 taking his wicket tally to 39 across all forms, 19 of which have come in Tests. Swann, who is ranked third in the FTI MVP for the npower Test Series, has taken 13 wickets in Pakistan's last three innings to help out the quicker bowlers, while he concedes his runs at just 2.66 runs per over, which enables his captain to use him in a defensive role, too.

Jimmy Anderson is second in the overall England FTI MVP and is ranked top of the Test FTI MVP having taken 29 wickets from the five Tests of the summer. He has been England's stand-out performer against Pakistan with 20 wickets including 11 in the match at Trent Bridge. This week he took 2-79 and 2-39 at the Brit Oval. He concedes his runs in Tests at 2.45 runs-per-over and has now scored 35 runs and taken 41 wickets across all forms.

Andrew Strauss drops to third overall and sixth in the Test FTI MVP after missing out in both innings at the Brit Oval. The England captain, who is ranked first in the FTI MVP for the NatWest ODI Series, has scored 818 runs across all cricket and 328 in the Test campaign. He notched a brace of 80s against Bangladesh earlier in the summer but has only mustered the one fifty in six knocks against Pakistan.

Stuart Broad is fourth with 109 runs and 35 wickets across all cricket. Broad made his first contribution of note with the bat this Test campaign scoring a valuable 48 off 77 balls as England's tail wagged in the first innings. He then took 2-75 in Pakistan's reply. The Nottinghamshire paceman was rested for the npower Test series against Bangladesh but still has a healthy tally of 11 wickets from the Pakistan Tests.

Eoin Morgan is fifth in the overall England FTI MVP with 726 runs, 256 of which have come in the Test arena. Morgan made just 17 and 5 at the Brit Oval but showed he really belonged in the Test arena earlier in the summer with a superb 130 to dig England out of trouble at Trent Bridge. The Irishman is ranked seventh in the Test FTI MVP, fifth in the T20 FTI MVP and fourth in the ODI FTI MVP.

Steve Finn is ranked second in the Test FTI MVP having taken 24 wickets in just five matches. The Middlesex fast bowler, who blew away Bangladesh taking 15 wickets in the two-match series, has proved a useful foil to the swing of Anderson and the pace of Broad in the three-man seam attack against Pakistan. Finn has taken 9 wickets in the series although the Brit Oval was his least successful Test of the summer producing just the one wicket.

Matt Prior is ranked fourth in the Test FTI MVP having scored 321 runs, taken 19 catches and completed one stumping. The Sussex gloveman has come to England's rescue throughout the Pakistan series scoring 102 at Trent Bridge and 84 at the Brit Oval whilst simultaneously marshalling the tail. Earlier in the summer he made 93 against Bangladesh.

Alastair Cook went into the second innings at the Oval under enormous pressure having scored just 106 runs from his previous eight Test innings with a highest score of 29. The Essex southpaw demonstrated his immense mental strength and no little skill to rattle off a superb century, which constituted almost half England's total, doubling his run tally for the Test campaign in the process. He is ranked seventeenth overall and tenth in the Test FTI MVP.
